我於 2003 年 1 月 18 日（星期六）去世。這個事實無可爭辯。我曾從屍袋中被剪出，至今仍保存著那袋子的一部分。當急救人員在 Dairy Queen 的洗手間發現我時，我的體溫僅有 79 度，而且我已經死亡了 45 分鐘，或許更久。

This book is my attempt to tell you about the events leading up to my death, what I learned while on the other side of death, and my experiences after I was brought back to life. I say attempt, because though I have done my best to explain what happened, the nature of existence on the other side is so different from this world, that explaining it poses a unique challenge—like explaining a sunset to someone who has never seen one, or the flavor of salt to someone who has never tasted it. I remember what I saw, I just don’t always know how to accurately describe it. The best I can do is relate it to things that we know here on Earth.

The concept of a principle was like smelling the sauce, and the deeper understanding of the implications and applications of a principle came to my awareness when I analyzed it more deeply.
