The Meeting

「哦，現在我的妝要花了！」Matilda突然意識到。

“O h, now my makeup will run!” Matilda suddenly realized.

她們立刻停止哭泣，眨了眨眼，擦了擦眼下的淚水。看到彼此都在做同樣的事情，她們笑了。女人在一分鐘前哭泣，下一分鐘又笑起來，這並不罕見，但對於像女主角和女祭司這樣的非凡人物來說，一切都是不可預測的，因為她們永遠不知道下一刻會創造出什麼。

They immediately stopped crying, blinked and wiped beneath their eyes. Seeing that they were both doing the same thing, they laughed. It is not unusual for women to find themselves crying one minute and laughing the next without rhyme or reasonbut for extraordinary individuals such as the diva and the priestess everythingwas unpredictable, since they never knew what they might create from one moment to the next.

「看看我，妝全花了，是不是？」

“Look at me, it has all run, hasn’t it?”

「不，你沒事，」Matilda回答，「那我呢？」 「你也沒事。真奇怪。」

“No, you’re fine,” answered Matilda, “what about mine?” “You’re fine, too. Strange.”

她們互相觸碰，然後再觸碰自己，再次做出相同的動作，就像雙胞胎一樣，儘管她們截然不同。

They touched each other and then themselves, once again making the same movements, like twins, although they were strikingly different.

“My stage make-up hasn’t smeared at all,” said Matilda in surprise. “Very strange things are happening here,” said Itfut.

“Yes, more than. What’s that war-paint you’re wearing?” “It’s ritual paint. What about you?”

“Theatrical.”

“It’s a long story. You know, when I first saw you, I thought Death itself had come for me.”

「哈哈！嗯，我也從沒見過像你這樣的人。」

“Ha, ha! Well, I’ve never seen anyone like you before either.”

她們再次笑了起來，開始互相看著對方，互相依偎，就像在派對上相遇，無事可做，無需擔心，除了討論她們的外貌和傻笑。這無疑是因為她們經歷的一切後的緊張，以及發現自己不再孤單的共同喜悅。

They laughed again and started looking at each other and holding on to one another, as if they had met at a party and there was nothing to do and nothing to worry about except for discussing their appearance and giggling. This was no doubt down to nerves after all they had been through and mutual delight at finding themselves no longer alone.

「看看。我的蝴蝶結壓扁了嗎？」Matilda問，背對Itfut，就像在更衣室裡一樣。

“Have a look. Is my bow squashed?” asked Matilda, turning her back to Itfut as if she were in a dressing room.

「沒有，沒事。你的蝴蝶結真是了不起。」

“No, it’s fine. Your bow is quite something.”

「哦，是的！我一開始對它很挑剔，一點也不喜歡！但我覺得它幫了我一些忙。」

“Oh yes! I was fussy about it at first and did not like it at all! But I think it helped me with something.”

“What with?”

「我不太確定。以後再說。」

“I’m not sure exactly. Another time.”

「不知為何，我的裙子一點也沒皺。」 「是的，這很了不起，」Matilda說。

“For some reason, my dress has not creased at all.” “Yes, that’s remarkable,” said Matilda.

「好像這裡什麼都不會皺或弄髒，」Itfut說。「而且妝也不會花。也許我們應該去洗掉它？」 「那是不可能的。我甚至無法在這裡喝水。」「啊，那一定是在一切停止之後。」

“It’s as if here nothing gets creased or stained here,” said Itfut. “And make-up does not run. Maybe we should go and wash it off?” “That’s unlikely to happen. I could not even drink the water here. “Ah, that must have been after everything stopped.”

「在什麼之後？那之前是怎樣的？」

“After what? What was it like before then?”

「我不知道，我不明白。我甚至不知道我在哪裡，也不知道我是怎麼來到這裡的。你呢？」

“I don’t know, I don’t get it. I don’t even know where I am or how I got here. Do you?”

“No, it’s the same for me.”

就在那一刻，現實開始改變，彷彿在提醒這對新朋友該開始考慮更嚴肅的事情了。無形的水鐘，仍在測量著相等的寂靜間隔，開始加速。滴落的聲音越來越快，直到出現一聲如同玻璃破裂的聲音。女主角和女祭司驚跳起來。隨即，水鐘安靜下來，天空分裂成兩個半球。

In that moment, reality began to change as if reminding the new-found friends that it was time to start considering more serious matters. The invisible clepsydra, which was still measuring equal intervals of silence, began to speed up. The sound of falling drops was repeating even faster until there was a crack, like the sound of breaking glass. The diva and priestess jumped. Immediately afterwards, the clepsydra went quiet and the sky split into two hemispheres.

一邊是搖曳的霧氣，另一邊，天空佈滿了發光的子午線，延伸到地平線。

On one side, there was a wavering haze, and on the other, the sky was lined with glowing meridians which stretched out as far as the horizon.

「我們需要分開！」Matilda驚呼。「什麼是『分開』？」Itfut問。

“We need to split!” Matilda exclaimed. “What’s ‘split’?” asked Itfut.

「快跑！我們得趕快跑！」

“Run for it! We’ve got to run for it!”

「但往哪裡跑？我們被沙漠包圍了。」

“But where to? We’re surrounded by desert.”

「有些東西改變了。有事情正在發生。你看到天空了嗎？我們得趕快撤離！」

“Something’s changed. Something’s happening. Have you seen the sky? We’ve got to sling our hooks!”

「什麼，什麼鉤子？」

“What, what hooks?”

「Futi，你是從月亮掉下來的嗎？你似乎不明白我說的一半話……哦，天啊，我還沒問你。你從哪裡來？」

“Futi, have you dropped off the moon or something? You don’t seem to understand half of what I say... Oh God, I did not ask you. Where are you from?”

「我……所以，我從哪裡來，哪裡？肯定不是從月亮來的。你叫我什麼？」

“I... so, where am I from, where? Not from the moon, that’s for sure. What did you call me?”

「Futi。這樣可以嗎？」

“Futi. Is that okay?”

「我想沒有人這樣叫過我，但……這聽起來有點熟悉……真奇怪。」

“I don’t think anyone has ever called me that but... it sounds familiar somehow... It’s strange.”

「沒關係，以後再說，現在沒時間了！快跑！」 「不，停下！Tili，回來！」Itfut在她身後喊道。

“Never mind, later, there’s no time now! Run!” “No, stop! Tili, come back!” Itfut shouted after her.

Matilda像被釘在原地一樣停下來，轉身在她的平台鞋上旋轉，驚訝地僵住。她以前聽過這些話，而且不止一次：「不，停下，Tili，親愛的，過來這裡！」

Matilda stopped as if rooted to the spot, spun round on her platforms and froze in surprise. She had heard those words before, and on more than one occasion: “No, stop, Tili, darling, come here!”

“What is it?” asked Matilda. At some point she had lost the habit of over- extending her vowels. Local reality was not especially conducive to diva ways.

“Why did you decide that we should make a run for it?” asked Itfut. “What if where we run to is even worse?”

“Nothing could be worse than what’s happened to me so far. I was almost eaten alive.”

「好吧，我差點死了。或者更確切地說，我死了，然後又『復活』了。但我們還活著，不是嗎！」

“Well I almost died. Or rather, I died and then kind of ‘undied’. But we are still alive, aren’t we!”

“You can see that something is happening! Whenever anything happens here, you know nothing good will come of it!”

「好吧，那我們往哪裡跑，左邊還是右邊？那邊有些東西在搖晃，另一邊有那些奇怪的線條。」

“Okay, then where do we run, to the left or to the right? That way, there’s something swaying, and the other way, there are those strange lines.”

「好問題。我們往那邊走，那裡沒有搖晃的東西。」

“Good question. Let’s go that way, where nothing is wavering.”

女主角和女祭司朝著匯聚的子午線方向跑去。現在只需看著天空，她們就能輕鬆地穿過城市迷宮。途中，她們有時間交談。

The diva and the priestess ran in the direction of the converging meridians. It was easy to maintain their course through the city maze now just by looking at the sky. On the way, they had time to talk.

「Futi，你為什麼稱自己為女祭司？」 「因為我就是。」

“Futi, why do you call yourself a priestess?” “Because that’s what I am.”

「你的意思是，真正的，現實生活中的那種？」 「還有什麼其他種類？」

“You mean, a true, real-life one?” “What other kind is there?”

「我們國家沒有女祭司。」

“We don’t have priestesses in our country.”

「我不是來自你的國家，你也不是來自我的國家，否則你會認出我，我也會認出你。」

“I’m not from your country and you aren’t from mine, otherwise you would recognize me and I you.”

「那為什麼我們說同一種語言？哦，我真是個傻瓜！華麗搖滾們也莫名其妙地和我說同一種語言！」

“So why do we speak the same language? Oh, I’m such a twit! The glamrocks spoke the same language as me for some reason too!”

「華麗搖滾？」

“Glamrocks?”

「是的，他們本來要吃掉我。然後我成了他們的女神。然後他們因某種原因全都凍住了。那邊有一個，你看到了嗎？」

“Yes, they were the ones who were going to eat me. And then I became their goddess. And then they all froze for some reason. There is one over there, you see?”

Along the way, they came across a gray statue.

“You mean these mannequins? And you became their goddess? How?”

“I’ll tell you later. Let’s walk for a bit, these platforms aren’t made for running in.”

「我的也不適合。我不明白。你說他們和你說同一種語言？」

“Mine aren’t either. I don’t get it. You said they spoke the same language as you?”

“Yes.”

「你說的你的意思是什麼？我們在說我的語言。」 「不，我在說我的語言。」

“What do you mean yours? We’re talking my language.” “No, I’m talking mine.”

「我也是。」

“So am I.”

她們驚訝地互相看著。「我看見又看不見，」Matilda說。

They looked at each other in surprise. “I see and I don’t see,” said Matilda.

「我也是。但我又有點明白，」Itfut說。「這一定是和衣服不會皺或弄髒，妝不會花一樣的奇蹟。」

“Neither do I. And yet, I kind of do,” said Itfut. “It must be one of the same order of miracles as the clothes not getting creased or dirty and our makeup not running.”

「這地方除了奇蹟什麼也沒有，只是它們不是那麼奇妙，而是怪異！」Matilda果斷地說。

“This place is nothing but miracles, only they aren’t so miraculous as monstrous!” Matilda said decisively.

當她們交談時，女主角和女祭司到達了城市的邊緣。沙漠景觀發生了很大變化。螢光綠的線條沿著地面和天空延伸，遠遠地彎曲形成一個隧道，隧道的盡頭有一個黑點。

While they were talking, the diva and the priestess reached the outskirts of the city. The desert landscape was considerably changed. Fluorescent green lines ran along the ground and across the sky stretching far into the distance. There they curved forming a tunnel, at the end of which, there was a black spot.

「Futi，我害怕，」Matilda說。「我們不必去，」Itfut說。

“Futi, I’m scared,” said Matilda. “We don’t have to go,” said Itfut.

「但如果那是離開這個世界的唯一方法呢？」

“But what if that’s the only way out of this world?”

「如果那個世界比這個更可怕呢？」 「我們得想辦法離開這裡！」

“And what if that world is even more frightening than this one?” “We need to get out of here somehow!”

「那我們走吧。」

“Let’s go then.”

「我們就快速看一眼，如果看起來不對勁，我們可以立刻回頭。」

“We’ll just take a quick look inside and if it looks dodgy, we can turn back straight away.”

「好，好，快點，快點！」

“Okay, okay, quick, quick!”

女主角和女祭司手牽手，迎向不確定性。隨著她們向前移動，地面和天空逐漸變窄，隧道變得越來越暗。只有那些線條在半光中發光。但她們的旅程並不長。到達最窄、最暗的點後，隧道口開始擴展，最終展開成一個寬闊的開放景觀。當她們看到這一幕時，我們的女英雄再次驚訝不已。

The diva and the priestess joined hands and set off to meet with uncertainty. As they moved forward, the earth and the sky narrowed, and the tunnel became increasingly dark. Only the lines were visible, glowing in the half-light. But their passage did not last long. Having reached the narrowest, darkest point, the tunnel mouth began to expand and finally unfolded into a wide, open vista. Our heroines found themselves astounded once again as they took in the scene.

地面和天空互換了位置。女主角和女祭司站在一個似乎通向虛無的空間中，而她們頭頂上懸掛著同樣的華麗搖滾城市，只是現在它是顛倒的。但這還不是全部。

The earth and the sky had changed places. The diva and the priestess were standing in an emptiness that seemed to descend into nowhere, and above their heads hung the same glamrock city, only now it was upside-down. But that was not all.

「Itfut，你在哪裡？」Matilda大喊。

“Itfut, where are you?” yelled Matilda.

「Matilda！我看不到你！我又看到我自己了！」 「我也看到我自己！Itfut，你在哪裡？」

“Matilda! I can’t see you! I am seeing myself again!” “I see myself too! Itfut, where are you?”

「你在哪裡？」

“Where are you?”

她們站在一起大喊，但一直在轉身和四處張望。最後，她們面對面地轉過來，開始像在鏡子裡一樣研究對方，做出不同的手、頭、腿的動作，觀察似乎是她們的倒影。

They shouted standing side by side but the whole time turning and looking to the sides. In the end, they turned to face each other and started studying each other as if looking in a mirror making different movements with their hands, head, legs and watching what appeared to be their reflection.

「Futi，我害怕！」Matilda再次喊道。「當我看著你時，我只看到我自己，但這不是鏡子！」

“Futi, I’m scared!” Matilda shouted again. “When I look at you, I only see me and yet this is not a mirror!”

「Tili，那真的是你嗎？！」Itfut驚呼，看著對面的身影，試圖弄清楚那是倒影還是她的雙胞胎。

“Tili, is that really you?!” exclaimed Itfut, looking at the figure opposite her trying to work out whether it was a reflection or her double.

「是你嗎？是你在回答我嗎？」 「Tili，你變成了另一個我嗎？」 「不，不，那不可能。我是你嗎？」

“Is that you? Is it you answering me?” “Tili, have you turned into another me?” “No, no, that’s impossible. Am I you?”

她們檢查了自己另一個版本，異口同聲地倒吸一口氣。Itfut在Matilda的身體裡，而Matilda在Itfut的身體裡。

They examined the other version of themselves and gasped in one voice. Itfut was in Matilda’s body and Matilda was in Itfut’s.

「你說得對！」Matilda說。「這裡的情況真的，真的，超級糟糕！」

“You were right!” said Matilda. “Things are really, really, super ba-a-ad here!”

「快跑，快跑回去，趁它還沒關上！」Itfut喊道，兩人手牽手衝回隧道。

“Run, run back before it closes!” shouted Itfut and taking each other by the hand they rushed back into the tunnel.

那位diva和祭司朝著匯聚的、發光的經絡線方向奔去。如今只需仰望天空，她們便能輕易在這城市迷宮中保持正確的方向。途中，她們還有空閒聊上幾句。

“You mean, a true, real-life one?” “What other kind is there?”

“We don’t have priestesses in our country.”

“I’m not from your country and you aren’t from mine, otherwise you would recognize me and I you.”

「那我們為什麼用同一種語言交流？哦，我真是個傻瓜！那群 glamrocks (Note:保持原文) 也莫名其妙和我說同樣的語言！」

“So why do we speak the same language? Oh, I’m such a twit! The glamrocks spoke the same language as me for some reason too!”

“Glamrocks？”

“Glamrocks?”

「是的，他們本來打算把我吃掉。但後來我變成了他們的女神，然後不知怎的，他們全都動彈不得。你看，就那邊有一個。」

“Yes, they were the ones who were going to eat me. And then I became their goddess. And then they all froze for some reason. There is one over there, you see?”

途中，他們遇見了一尊灰色雕像。

Along the way, they came across a gray statue.

「你的意思是這些模特兒？你竟然成了他們的女神？怎麼回事？」

“You mean these mannequins? And you became their goddess? How?”

「我改天再說。先走一會兒吧，這些站台並不適合奔跑。」

“I’ll tell you later. Let’s walk for a bit, these platforms aren’t made for running in.”

「我的也不行。我真搞不懂。你說過他們和你用同樣的語言對話，對吧？」

“Mine aren’t either. I don’t get it. You said they spoke the same language as you?”

「是的。」

“Yes.”

「你說的‘我的’是什麼意思？我們指的是我的語言啊。」 「不，我指的是我的。」

“What do you mean yours? We’re talking my language.” “No, I’m talking mine.”

「我也是。」

“So am I.”

他們驚訝地相對凝視著。Matilda說：「我既看見了，也沒看見。」

They looked at each other in surprise. “I see and I don’t see,” said Matilda.

「我也沒看見，但又好像確實看見了，」Itfut說，「這一定跟那些衣服不皺、不髒，妝也不會花掉的奇蹟屬於同一類奇蹟。」

“Neither do I. And yet, I kind of do,” said Itfut. “It must be one of the same order of miracles as the clothes not getting creased or dirty and our makeup not running.”

「這地方充滿了奇蹟，不過那些奇蹟與怪物相比，哪能算是真正的神蹟！」Matilda斷然道。

“This place is nothing but miracles, only they aren’t so miraculous as monstrous!” Matilda said decisively.

談話間，diva與祭司走到了城市邊緣，沙漠的風貌大變樣——螢光綠的線條沿著地面及天空延展至遠方，彎曲成一座隧道，而隧道的盡頭赫然出現一片黑色斑點。

While they were talking, the diva and the priestess reached the outskirts of the city. The desert landscape was considerably changed. Fluorescent green lines ran along the ground and across the sky stretching far into the distance. There they curved forming a tunnel, at the end of which, there was a black spot.

「Futi，我好害怕，」Matilda低語道，「我們其實不用去那裡。」

“Futi, I’m scared,” said Matilda. “We don’t have to go,” said Itfut.

「但如果那是逃離這世界唯一的出路呢？」

“But what if that’s the only way out of this world?”

「又假如那個世界比這裡更可怕呢？」 「無論如何，我們必須離開這裡！」

“And what if that world is even more frightening than this one?” “We need to get out of here somehow!”

「那就走吧。」

“Let’s go then.”

「我們先快速探查一下，若看起來有詭異之處，馬上回頭。」

“We’ll just take a quick look inside and if it looks dodgy, we can turn back straight away.”

「好，好，快快！」

“Okay, okay, quick, quick!”

Diva與祭司牽手出發，迎向未知。隨著步伐向前，天地逐漸變窄，隧道變得愈發昏暗，只有那些在半光中閃爍的線條顯現其影。但她們的通行時間不長——當走到最狹、最黑暗之處，隧道口突然開始擴展，最終展開為一幅寬闊開闊的畫卷，使這兩位女英雄再次為眼前景象驚嘆不已。

The diva and the priestess joined hands and set off to meet with uncertainty. As they moved forward, the earth and the sky narrowed, and the tunnel became increasingly dark. Only the lines were visible, glowing in the half-light. But their passage did not last long. Having reached the narrowest, darkest point, the tunnel mouth began to expand and finally unfolded into a wide, open vista. Our heroines found themselves astounded once again as they took in the scene.

地與空互換了位置。Diva與祭司站在一片似乎無盡下沉的虛空中，頭頂懸掛著那座 glamrock（Note:保持原文）城市，不過如今卻顛倒如鏡。但事情還不只如此。

The earth and the sky had changed places. The diva and the priestess were standing in an emptiness that seemed to descend into nowhere, and above their heads hung the same glamrock city, only now it was upside-down. But that was not all.

“Itfut，你在哪裡？”Matilda喊道。

“Itfut, where are you?” yelled Matilda.

「Matilda！我看不見你！我竟又看見了自己！」 「我也看見了自己！Itfut，你在哪裡？」

“Matilda! I can’t see you! I am seeing myself again!” “I see myself too! Itfut, where are you?”

「你在哪裡？」

“Where are you?”

他們一邊並肩大喊，一邊不斷轉向四周觀望。最終，彼此対視而立，彷彿在照鏡子般仔細打量，手、頭、腿各自動起不同的動作，觀察著那似乎映出自己倒影的形象。

They shouted standing side by side but the whole time turning and looking to the sides. In the end, they turned to face each other and started studying each other as if looking in a mirror making different movements with their hands, head, legs and watching what appeared to be their reflection.

「Futi，我好害怕！」Matilda再次大聲喊道，「當我看著你時，卻只見到我自己，而這根本不是鏡子！」

“Futi, I’m scared!” Matilda shouted again. “When I look at you, I only see me and yet this is not a mirror!”

「Tili，真的是你嗎？！」Itfut驚呼著，望著對面的身影，努力分辨那究竟是倒影還是你我的分身。

“Tili, is that really you?!” exclaimed Itfut, looking at the figure opposite her trying to work out whether it was a reflection or her double.

「那是你嗎？是你在回應我嗎？」 「Tili，你變成另一個我了嗎？」 「不，不，這不可能。我究竟是你，還是你是我？」

“Is that you? Is it you answering me?” “Tili, have you turned into another me?” “No, no, that’s impossible. Am I you?”

她們仔細打量著彼此的另一個版本，只齊聲倒吸一口涼氣——Itfut居然在Matilda的身體裡，而Matilda則出現在Itfut的軀殼中。

They examined the other version of themselves and gasped in one voice. Itfut was in Matilda’s body and Matilda was in Itfut’s.

「你說得對！」Matilda說，「這裡的情況真是，真是，超級糟糕！」

“You were right!” said Matilda. “Things are really, really, super ba-a-ad here!”

「快跑，快跑，趁它還沒有關閉！」Itfut喊道，隨後兩人手牽手急忙返回隧道。

“Run, run back before it closes!” shouted Itfut and taking each other by the hand they rushed back into the tunnel.
