The moment the diva and the priestess left the megalith, they were engulfed in an almost intangible darkness. It was a peculiar feeling for darkness usually assumes an emptiness, the absence of light. In night-time meta-reality however, the element of light was still present, the only difference being that it did not illuminate objects so much as color them in various shades of black. Even the air was as if literally painted black and the buildings were blacker still. Only the figures of the two friends shone, and the details of their silhouettes were particularly bright.

A blue luminosity surrounded Matilda’s face and hair, while her platform shoes and bow shone pink. Itfut’s face burned crimson and her diamond-studded collar sparkled in all the colors of the rainbow. The diva’s dark-green jumpsuit and the priestess’s dark-blue dress glowed in deep, rich tones. The priestess’s hair seemed even blacker than usual while the hands of both were a dazzling white.

The overall picture was evocative of two gleaming figures, who had come to life inside a watercolor painting. The friends were noticeably ‘animated’ after partaking of the reviving drink. Matilda trotted along in her platforms, and Itfut took bold strides making expansive movements with her arms.

The drink had clearly given them courage since the walk they were taking was hardly a pleasant diversion. The eerie dream space had transformed into an even scarier realm of shadows. Whether their desperate outing displayed more courage or recklessness on their part, it is hard to say. Perhaps they were just more comfortable in this worldnow and were no longer intimidated by anything much.

The friends laughed. Giggling and jostling each other as they went, they failed to notice how far they had walked from the safety of the megalith. Caught in a dark maze of streets, they fell silent and began moving more cautiously, looking from side to side. The scene was far from idyllic and the clicking of their heels in the deathly silence sounded strange and unnatural.

Turning a corner, they came to an abrupt halt. The silence was now truly sepulchral. In the middle of the street, two mannequins stood as if they had frozen right in the middle of a discussion. Their eyes burned ominously in the darkness. For all their bragging, the diva and the priestess stood stock-still from fright, numbed by the spectacle before them and the hypnotic, all-encompassing stillness.

And so, the friends began making their way back the way they came. They walked in silence, tired now lacking their earlier enthusiasm. Their first and very long day in meta-reality had ended without result. They were left with many more questions than answers. Having entered the megalith, the diva and the priestess sat down at the table and drank ‘another quirky cupful’ of herbal tea to lift their spirits.

朋友們笑成一團，一邊輕聲嬉鬧、一邊相互推擠，竟然沒發現自己早已離那座巨石（megalith）的安全範圍遙遠。當她們進入一條昏暗且錯綜複雜的街巷時，忽然安靜下來，開始小心翼翼地左右張望。這一幕遠非童話般美好，那在死寂中鞋跟的咔嗒聲聽起來尤為奇異、不自然。
The friends laughed. Giggling and jostling each other as they went, they failed to notice how far they had walked from the safety of the megalith. Caught in a dark maze of streets, they fell silent and began moving more cautiously, looking from side to side. The scene was far from idyllic and the clicking of their heels in the deathly silence sounded strange and unnatural.

Turning a corner, they came to an abrupt halt. The silence was now truly sepulchral. In the middle of the street, two mannequins stood as if they had frozen right in the middle of a discussion. Their eyes burned ominously in the darkness. For all their bragging, the diva and the priestess stood stock-still from fright, numbed by the spectacle before them and the hypnotic, all-encompassing stillness.

And so, the friends began making their way back the way they came. They walked in silence, tired now lacking their earlier enthusiasm. Their first and very long day in meta-reality had ended without result. They were left with many more questions than answers. Having entered the megalith, the diva and the priestess sat down at the table and drank ‘another quirky cupful’ of herbal tea to lift their spirits.
