Beast and His Woman

野獸從烤架上取下鳥，開始餵他的女人。他切下最嫩的肉片，遞給她。野獸自己不吃。最重要的是她在吃，而且她在看著他。他非常享受，無法停止看著她。

Beast removed the bird from the skewer and began to feed his woman. He cut off the most succulent slices of meat and handed them to her. Beast did not eat. The most important thing was that she was eating and that she was looking at him. He enjoyed it very much and could not stop looking at her.

“Why aren’t you asking me why I’m not eating?” Beast asked her. “Why are you not eating, my lord?” she asked.

Beast liked watching how woman ate very much because if woman was eating, it meant all was well and that counted for a lot because if a woman was eating, it meant that in that given moment there was food and shelter, and everything was calm and safe.

Having eaten to her heart’s content, the wild maid settled down half-reclining on the many soft skins and began to observe what her lord was doing. Beast then fed himself and afterwards decided to make a soft pillow for his woman from the feathers of the bird, so that they would not we wasted and so that his woman would sleep comfortably.

Beast had stretches of carefully crafted leather, which he cut as needed. Then he took a bone needle and thread from thin fibers and sewed the pieces of leather into a pillowcase. Next, he filled the pillowcase with the feathers. There were enough to make a decent pillow, as his prey was a large bird with plenty of feathers and fluff. Then he sewed a pillowcase and he ended up with a good, soft pillow. Beast tried hard for his woman and busied himself with tasks all evening. When he had finished, he straightened out the pillow, gave it a good thump and then handed it to his woman.

“Here, this is for you.”

Without saying a word, she took the pillow and quite content pressed it to her stomach.

Beast carefully covered his woman with the best, most cozy hide and then covered himself with another, a little flatter. No sooner had he done this than the maid was already falling asleep contented and reassured. He gently stroked her hair and lay looking at her for a long time listening to the sound of her breathing. He smiled to himself and then he too fell asleep.

The next day, Beast decided that he should clothe his woman. She was wearing some old rags that barely covered her body. He gathered his things and said,

“I’m going to hunt a wild, fluffy beast. Don’t go anywhere without me. Wait for me here. Keep the fire burning.”

“I’ll be on my way then.”

And so, Beast went in search of a wild, furry beast, from whose skin he could sew clothes for his woman. The wild, furry animal lived in the trees and hunted birds. It was quite a large animal with a beautiful, soft fur but it was also very dangerous. It scratched hard and its bite was painful. Catching it was difficult. You could not kill it with an axe or reach it with a spear. You could only manage to shoot it with a bow and arrow and even that was tricky as it was a very mobile animal.

As usual, Beast did not have to search long, and the hunt soon turned into a fast- moving encounter. Beast again came across another silly bird although naturally, a different one this time. The silly bird was standing under a tree with its head up, its legs apart and its wings crumpled, and it cried, “Kli-kli-kli!” And why was she crying? Because on a branch up above, there was a wild, furry beast.

In that same moment, another wild, furry beast with clawed paws suddenly appeared out of nowhere and attacked. Beast instantly grabbed his knife and slashed the wild animal’s throat, but not before it had managed to scratch hard at Beast with its claws.

’Bloody hell,’ thought Beast standing above his trophies. ‘The second one was probably trying to protect his woman, and accepted death alongside her. And what a silly bird! It was like she was deliberately seeking death. Maybe she wanted to be reincarnated quicker?’

Beast honored his prey as always, “You, wild animals, were furry animals, and now you will become fair, noble people. You will protect women and bring them game. And you, forest bird, you were a silly, unthinking bird but you will become smart and wise. Be now whoever you want to be.”

Beast removed the skins from the animals, threw them over his shoulder, grabbed the bird by its legs and set off with large strides back to his cave, to his woman. He was lucky. Instead of one animal, he had killed two and there was the bird to boot, a tasty one too. The only downside was the deep cuts the wild animal had left on his body. Beast gathered medicinal herbs on his way back with which to treat his wounds.

The maid met him when he returned to the cave and examined the spoils with interest. She paid no attention to Beast’s scratches. But still, as before he prepared dinner quickly and managed to deal with his own problems, also. Once again, he fed his woman first and watched her eat.

The woman adorned his life. Nothing else mattered.

The next few days were spent making clothes for the woman. The skins of the furry animals had to be dried and worked very carefully so that they became soft and pleasant to touch. When Beast tried pieces of skin up against the woman for size, which he did quite often, no doubt on purpose, he took the opportunity to hug her and pull her to him. She did not pull away from him, but she did not express any reciprocity either.

Beast worked diligently and dutifully on the clothing for his woman. And finally, the moment came when the masterpiece of couture was ready. The result was a pair of cute knee-high pants and a jacket with sleeves that came to the middle of the forearm. Dressed in the outfit, the wild maid did not look quite so wild.

Naturally, she was pleased, or rather, very pleased but she was most pleased with Beast. It was even more pleasant to hug and stroke his woman now that she was wearing a soft, fluffy, fur coat.

Now that his girlfriend was dressed up, Beast took her out for the first time. Once they were out of the cave, he took her by the hand and led her along a winding path halfway up the mountain. There they sat on a high cliff and admired the panorama of the forest valley, nestled among the mountains in the rays of the setting sun.

As they sat watching the sunset, Beast gently put his arm round his woman’s shoulders and waist. As before, she did not seem to mind, but she did not respond with any affection. When they went to bed, Beast could not fall asleep for a long time wondering how to get his hot, and at the same time cold, woman to reciprocate. He decided that he should make her a gift of some jewelry.

Nonetheless, Beast was decided, and he set off the very next day.

So, he climbed to the very peak, to the crown of the mountain. The path was not easy and ran across steep slopes, screes and narrow paths on the edge of high cliffs. At one point, Beast almost fell into an abyss and injured his arms and legs which were covered in blood, but he still reached the top and found his semiprecious stones. He chose some of the most beautiful among them, placed them inside his leather bag and made his way back to his cave, to his woman.

像往常一樣，女人坐在火旁的柔軟皮毛上等他。野獸把袋子裡的石頭倒在她面前。

As usual, the woman was waiting for him sitting on a soft hide beside the fire. Beast dumped the stones from his bag before her.

“Look, this is all for you,” he said. Her eyes lit up. “Do you like them?” he asked her.

’Maybe now her heart will melt,’ thought Beast who was tired but set to treating his wounds. The maid sorted through the semiprecious stones examining each one without giving a thought to where they had come from and paying no attention to her lord’s misfortune.

So, there you have it. Beast worked hard for several days trying to make the best and most beautiful things for his woman that one could possibly make in such conditions. Finally, the work was finished, and the solemn moment came. Beast adorned his woman’s ankles and wrists with bracelets and hung a necklace at her neck.

However, a long-forgotten sadness and longing took root in his soul again and he felt lonely despite the fact that his woman was with him.

Beast instantly grabbed his knife and slashed the wild animal’s throat, but not before it had managed to scratch hard at Beast with its claws.

’Bloody hell,’ thought Beast standing above his trophies. ‘The second one was probably trying to protect his woman, and accepted death alongside her. And what a silly bird! It was like she was deliberately seeking death. Maybe she wanted to be reincarnated quicker?’

按照慣例，Beast對著獵物進行了他的「送葬」儀式，他對那隻鳥說：「你們這些野獸，曾是多毛的動物，如今將化為高貴的人物；你們將負責保護女人並為她們帶去獵物。而你這隻森林鳥，曾是個愚蠢、無知的小鳥，但你將變得聰明智慧，成為你想成為的模樣。」

Beast honored his prey as always, “You, wild animals, were furry animals, and now you will become fair, noble people. You will protect women and bring them game. And you, forest bird, you were a silly, unthinking bird but you will become smart and wise. Be now whoever you want to be.”

Beast將動物皮剝下，披在肩上，抓住小鳥的腿，大步返回山洞奔向他的女人。他感到十分幸運，不僅殺了一隻野獸，還收穫了另一隻，以及那隻美味的小鳥。唯一的缺憾是，野獸留下了深深的抓痕。Beast在回程途中拾取藥草，用來治療那些傷痕。

Beast removed the skins from the animals, threw them over his shoulder, grabbed the bird by its legs and set off with large strides back to his cave, to his woman. He was lucky. Instead of one animal, he had killed two and there was the bird to boot, a tasty one too. The only downside was the deep cuts the wild animal had left on his body. Beast gathered medicinal herbs on his way back with which to treat his wounds.

當他回到山洞時，那少女已興致勃勃地迎上前，仔細打量著他的戰利品。她對Beast身上的抓痕毫不在意，也不在乎他用藥草製成軟膏處理傷口。然而，就像往常一樣，Beast迅速動手準備晚餐，並解決自己的瑣事。再一次，他先餵女人，然後滿心喜悅地看著她進食。

The maid met him when he returned to the cave and examined the spoils with interest. She paid no attention to Beast’s scratches. Neither did she pay much attention when Beast treated his wounds by applying ointment on them made from ground herbs. But still, as before he prepared dinner quickly and managed to deal with his own problems, also. Once again, he fed his woman first and watched her eat.

夜幕將至，他們一同躺下，少女很快便滿足地沉入夢鄉。Beast躺在一旁，注視著她，臉上露出微笑，輕輕撫摸著她的肩膀與胸膛，靜聽她均勻的呼吸聲，生怕打擾她。對他來說，她裝點了他的生命，再無其他事物能與之相比。

When the time came to sleep, they lay down together and the maid easily dropped off again snuffling blissfully. And again, Beast lay there watching her, smiling to himself and he listened to her breathing even softly touching her shoulders and chest very quietly, so as not to wake her up. The woman adorned his life. Nothing else mattered.

接下來幾天，Beast忙著為他的女人製作衣服。他需將那些多毛野獸的皮曬乾、細心加工，使其變得柔軟而宜人。每當他試著拿著皮料對著女人試穿（他常有意這麼做），便藉此抱住她，把她拉進懷中。她既不抗拒，也沒有過多回應。

The next few days were spent making clothes for the woman. The skins of the furry animals had to be dried and worked very carefully so that they became soft and pleasant to touch. When Beast tried pieces of skin up against the woman for size, which he did quite often, no doubt on purpose, he took the opportunity to hug her and pull her to him. She did not pull away from him, but she did not express any reciprocity either.

然而，Beast心中滿足——如今他有了可以擁抱的女人，至少有時候可以如此。而且，他的生活也因此充滿了愉悅與溫馨的關懷，讓他的存在獲得了全新的【Goals and doors】(Goals and doors)（註：目標和門，象徵人生指引與契機）。

However, Beast was content with the fact that there was now a woman in his life who he could hug and pull to him, at least sometimes. Moreover, his life was now filled with pleasant cares and encouraging concerns. There was new meaning to his existence. He had a goal.

Beast勤奮地設計並做起了女人的衣裳。最終，他完成了一件時尚傑作：一條可愛的膝上褲與一件袖子到前臂中段的夾克。穿上這套服飾後，那位野女看起來已不再如此狂野。

Beast worked diligently and dutifully on the clothing for his woman. And finally, the moment came when the masterpiece of couture was ready. The result was a pair of cute knee-high pants and a jacket with sleeves that came to the middle of the forearm. Dressed in the outfit, the wild maid did not look quite so wild.

自然，她感到非常高興，甚至極為欣喜，但她最為滿足的則是Beast本人。如今見到自己的女人穿上這件柔軟、蓬鬆的毛皮大衣後，擁抱與撫摸起來更加舒適溫馨。

Naturally, she was pleased, or rather, very pleased but she was most pleased with Beast. It was even more pleasant to hug and stroke his woman now that she was wearing a soft, fluffy, fur coat.

當女友換上新裝後，Beast首次帶她外出。他們離開山洞後，Beast牽著她的手，沿著蜿蜒的山路朝半山腰走去。到了那裡，他們坐在高崖上，欣賞著被群山環繞的森林山谷全景，沐浴在夕陽餘暉中，享受著難忘的美景。

Now that his girlfriend was dressed up, Beast took her out for the first time. Once they were out of the cave, he took her by the hand and led her along a winding path halfway up the mountain. There they sat on a high cliff and admired the panorama of the forest valley, nestled among the mountains in the rays of the setting sun.

當他們一起看著夕陽時，Beast輕輕地摟住他女人的肩膀和腰。就像以前一樣，她似乎並不介意，但也並未回應以任何情意。當夜深人靜時，Beast久久輾轉難眠，心中思索如何讓這位既熱情又冷漠的女人回以同樣的溫柔。他決定要做一份珠寶作禮物送給她。

As they sat watching the sunset, Beast gently put his arm round his woman’s shoulders and waist. As before, she did not seem to mind, but she did not respond with any affection. When they went to bed, Beast could not fall asleep for a long time wondering how to get his hot, and at the same time cold, woman to reciprocate. He decided that he should make her a gift of some jewelry.

但他該怎麼獲得呢？從其他女人那裡偷來？不行，這樣做絕對不行。他決定親自動手製作。首先，他必須找到一些美麗的半寶石。在山頂，到那山冠處，恰有美麗的半寶石，但那地方也極其難以抵達。

But how would he get it? Steal some from other women? No, that would not do. He’d make something himself. But first, he had to find some stones, beautiful, semiprecious stones. There were beautiful, semiprecious stones at the very top, at the very crown of the mountain, but they would be very difficult to reach.

不過，Beast下定決心，隔天便啟程出發。

Nonetheless, Beast was decided, and he set off the very next day.

於是，他一路攀登直到山頂，直達山冠。這段路途十分險峻，穿越陡坡、石礫和懸崖邊的狹窄小徑。途中，Beast曾差點墜入深淵，手腳被血浸，但他仍堅持抵達頂峰，找到他心儀的半寶石。他挑選出其中最美的一部分，小心收好放入皮袋中，然後踏上回山洞的路，趕往他的女人那裡。

So, he climbed to the very peak, to the crown of the mountain. The path was not easy and ran across steep slopes, screes and narrow paths on the edge of high cliffs. At one point, Beast almost fell into an abyss and injured his arms and legs which were covered in blood, but he still reached the top and found his semiprecious stones. He chose some of the most beautiful among them, placed them inside his leather bag and made his way back to his cave, to his woman.

一如既往，女人正坐在火邊的柔軟獸皮上等待著他。Beast將皮袋中的寶石倒在她面前。

As usual, the woman was waiting for him sitting on a soft hide beside the fire. Beast dumped the stones from his bag before her.

「看，這一切都是給你的。」 他說道，然後問她：「你喜歡嗎？」

“Look, this is all for you,” he said. Her eyes lit up. “Do you like them?” he asked her.

「是的，我的主人，」那少女滿臉欣喜地回答。

“Yes, my lord,” said the maid clearly delighted.

Beast心中暗想：‘或許現在她的心就會融化了。’儘管他疲憊不堪，還忙著治療自己的傷口，那少女卻忙於仔細挑選那些半寶石，一一端詳，絲毫不關心她主人遭遇的不幸。

’Maybe now her heart will melt,’ thought Beast who was tired but set to treating his wounds. The maid sorted through the semiprecious stones examining each one without giving a thought to where they had come from and paying no attention to her lord’s misfortune.

就這樣，Beast連續幾天努力工作，傾注心力製作出他能在這樣艱苦環境下可能製造出的最精美、最美麗的飾品。終於，這個莊嚴的時刻到了。Beast為他女人的腳踝和手腕戴上手鐲，並在她的頸上掛上一條項鍊。

So, there you have it. Beast worked hard for several days trying to make the best and most beautiful things for his woman that one could possibly make in such conditions. Finally, the work was finished, and the solemn moment came. Beast adorned his woman’s ankles and wrists with bracelets and hung a necklace at her neck.

那少女比以往任何時候都高興，她在山洞中來回踱步，欣賞著自己的首飾，不時向主人展示她戴上飾品的美麗模樣。Beast也從中得到無比喜悅。然而，一股早已被遺忘的憂愁和思鄉之情再次在他心中滋長起來，即便身邊有女人相伴，他仍感孤單。

The maid was more pleased than ever. She walked back and forth in the cave admiring her jewels and showing her lord how beautiful she looked in them. And Beast enjoyed it all, too. However, a long-forgotten sadness and longing took root in his soul again and he felt lonely despite the fact that his woman was with him.

當夜深人靜時，她並未馬上入睡，而是不停地展示她的腳踝和雙手，欣賞自己的美麗。隨後，他問道：「你是否懷念家鄉？」 「不，我的主人，」那少女回答。

When they went to bed, she did not fall asleep straight away but carried on showing him her ankles and hands admiring her own beauty. And then he asked her, “Do you miss home?” “No, my lord,” said the maid.

「你幹嘛一直這樣稱呼我，你這傻瓜！」 Beast再也忍不住大喊，「我才不是你的主人。」

“Why do you keep calling me that, you silly thing!” said Beast, unable to contain himself. “I’m not your lord.”

他將她摟入懷中，輕輕吻著她散發森林氣息的髮絲，沉浸於她的芳香中，緊緊抱著她。她則靜靜地躺著，但不久，他又聽見熟悉的輕輕抽鼻聲。

He hugged her and pressed his lips to her hair which smelled of the forest. He buried himself in her hair and lay there, pulling his woman close. She, too, lay quietly but after a few moments he heard the same old sniffing.
